grad folgende dpa meldung gelesen: "London (dpa) - Die britische Rockband The Police steht fast 25 Jahre nach ihrer letzten gemeinsamen Tour vor einem Comeback. Die Band um Sänger Sting (55) bereite für diesen Sommer eine Reihe von Konzerten vor, berichtete die britische Tageszeitung «Daily Mirror». Die genauen Termine sollten noch im Lauf dieses Monats bekannt gegeben werden. Eine Sprecherin der Plattenfirma A&M bestätigte lediglich, dass es «erste Gespräche» gebe ... " *schmacht* aber so langsam scheint das ja direkt inflationär zu werden, mit den comebacks dieses jahr ... (beängstigend ist es ja eh schon)

Bei "The Police" wundere ich mich immer wieder darüber, wie es die Band mit ihrer handwerklich superben Minimalmusik immer wieder geschafft haben, soviel Hits zu landen und vor allem so populär zu werden. Stewart Copeland ist für mich ja einer DER Ausnahmedrummer, allein schon seine Art Schlagzeug zu spielen ist absolut sehenswert. Ich mag The Police, die Musik geht mir in LP-Länge aber dann irgendwann auf den Zeiger. Live müssen Police wohl absolut geil gewesen sein damals, hatte mal ein Livevideo gesehen, boah... was für eine Power. Und das mit - wie gesagt - Minimalbesetzung Bass, Schlagzeug, Gitarre, Gesang. Stings späteren Alleingang fand ich klasse (ok, "Russians" mag ich heute nicht mehr unbedingt hören wollen). Mutig sein Richtungswechsel ins eher jazzige. "Bring On The Night" ist heute noch eins meiner "Alltime Greatest"-Alben überhaupt. Witzig war ja damals, das Gitarrist Andy Summners Geburtsjahr "marketingtechnisch" nach unten gesetzt wurde, weil er damals glaube ich schon 10 Jahre älter war als der Rest der Band... Hat man glaube ich öfters gemacht sowas...
